Association for Advocacy on increasing Geothermal Energy investment announces both Petrofac and Mission Renewable as new Founding Members

LONDON – 12 January – the Geothermal Energy Advancement Association (GEAA) is delighted to announce that Petrofac and Mission Renewable have both joined GEAA as Founding Members. Other members include energy companies, universities, institutions, and professional services. With the addition of Petrofac and Mission Renewable, there are currently 21 Founding Members.

GEAA is a not-for-profit stakeholder-driven association that advocates increased investment in, and awareness of, this sustainable source for low carbon power, heat, and hot water, and in some cases, potential for strategic and valuable minerals. GEAA aims to promote geothermal, its future role, and the necessary policy and legal frameworks needed to accelerate its use. Its Working Groups provide easy-to-follow 1-pagers for information on key aspects of geothermal. It is open globally to all those interested in advancing geothermal and its role in transitioning to a world using less hydrocarbons.

Jonathan Carpenter, Vice President, New Energy Services at Petrofac commented: “Over the past two years we have broadened our portfolio to support projects that will be critical for low-carbon energy production, and we see geothermal energy as one of those solutions. We look forward to working with the GEAA to help promote this sector as well as our continued work with GEAA founding member Ceraphi Energy on developing its pioneering closed loop technology for repurposing oil and gas wells and for new developments.”

George Pendreich, Business Development Manager, at Mission Renewable commented: “We are incredibly excited by the potential growth of geothermal power in the UK and we are dedicated to supporting this growth via the People & Skills Working Group. As the armed forces engagement initiative for the renewable energy sector, we will work alongside GEAA and its membership to develop pathways into the industry, and to ensure that the geothermal sector is a destination of choice for our highly skilled service-leaver and veteran community.”

President of GEAA, Professor Jon Gluyas, Director of the Durham Energy Institute at Durham University, noted: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome both Petrofac and Mission Renewable to the GEAA, they join a diverse family of organisations committed to reducing the negative impact humankind has on Earth in its quest to satisfy the energy needs of an ever-growing population, through promotion of geothermal energy as an ultra-low carbon, sustainable, low impact energy source. Geothermal energy for heating, cooling and power generation is accessible to all nations. Its development and use readily comply with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and for those nations which will struggle to meet with the agreements reached at COP27 it should provide a deliverable solution.”
